IPTV installation guide

How to set up IPTV

You have an active subscription and an M3U URL. The rest takes about five minutes. This guide walks through each step and includes short notes for Smart TV, Android, iOS, Fire TV, MAG, and PC.

What you need before you start

The setup process itself is straightforward, but four things must be in place first. Miss one, and you stop there.

  • An active subscription — you need a live plan with Asgard IPTV. No active subscription yet? Check our plans and pricing — the test plan costs €4 and runs for 48 hours.
  • Your M3U URL and EPG URL — we send these by email as soon as your subscription is activated. Keep that email accessible on the device you're configuring.
  • A compatible device — Smart TV, Android device, iPhone, Amazon Fire TV, MAG box, or PC. See the full devices list if you're unsure about your specific model.
  • A stable internet connection — a wired connection is preferable for large screens. Wi-Fi works well on most devices provided the signal is strong enough at the point of use.

Everything in order? Move on to the steps below.

Step-by-step setup

The process is the same regardless of which IPTV player you use. Menu label names vary slightly between apps, but the equivalent option is always in the settings.

  1. Install an IPTV player app

Open the app store on your device and install an IPTV player application. Choose one that supports M3U playlists and an electronic programme guide (EPG). Both are standard features — check the app description if you're unsure, since M3U and EPG support are usually listed explicitly.

  2. Open the app settings and add a new playlist source

Launch the app and find the option to add a source, playlist, or server. The label differs by app — you may see "Add playlist", "New source", or "M3U URL". Select that option to continue.

  3. Paste the M3U URL you received

Copy the M3U URL from your welcome email and paste it into the URL field. Copy the full URL — a single missing character produces an error. Confirm or press Save.

  4. Wait for the playlist to load

The app fetches channels from the server. Load time depends on your connection and the number of channels in the playlist. It usually takes between a few seconds and one minute. Do not close or interrupt the app while this runs.

  5. Add the EPG URL for the programme guide

Return to the source settings you just created, or find a separate EPG / programme guide URL field in the app settings. Paste the EPG URL from your welcome email. After the EPG loads, broadcast schedules and programme information will appear inside the player.

  6. Test playback

Browse the channel list or search for a channel you recognise, then start playback. Confirm both picture and audio come through cleanly. Problems at this stage? The troubleshooting section further down the page covers the most common causes.

Quick notes per device

The core steps are identical on every platform. Below are a few practical notes for each device type that shorten the process.

Smart TV

Find an IPTV player in your TV's built-in app store. Use the remote to navigate settings and paste URLs with the on-screen keyboard. If the keyboard is slow, send the URLs to yourself by email and open that email from the TV's browser — copy-paste is easier that way.

Android / Android TV

Install an IPTV player from Google Play. Android phones and Android TV boxes share the same app catalogue, but confirm the app is optimised for a TV interface if you're on Android TV. Open your welcome email on the same device so you can copy the URLs without typing them out manually.

iOS / iPhone

Install an IPTV player from the App Store. iOS only allows apps distributed through Apple's own store, so choose one that is listed there and explicitly supports M3U import. Open your welcome email in the Mail app and copy the URLs directly from there into the player.

Amazon Fire TV / Firestick

Download an IPTV player via the Amazon Appstore on the device. If the Appstore selection is limited, you can sideload an app by enabling "Apps from Unknown Sources" under Settings, Device, Developer Options. A Bluetooth keyboard or the voice input on the Fire TV remote makes URL entry considerably faster.

MAG boxes

MAG boxes use a dedicated portal system rather than M3U-based setup. Log into the box's settings menu and enter the portal URL we send you. Reach our support team via the live chat in the corner of this page if you need MAG-specific guidance — we'll walk through it with you.

PC / Mac

Install a desktop IPTV player from an app store or the developer's website. A browser-based player is also an option if you prefer not to install anything. On a desktop, you can copy the M3U URL straight from your email client and paste it without any risk of a typing error.

Troubleshooting

The most common issues after setup, and what to do about each one.

Picture buffers or stutters during playback

Run a speed test on your internet connection first. Buffering is almost always caused by limited bandwidth or an unstable Wi-Fi signal, not a server problem. Try connecting the device to your router by cable rather than using wireless. If you're playing a high-resolution stream, switch the player to a lower quality setting temporarily to confirm whether bandwidth is the constraint.

Black screen — video does not appear

A black screen with audio usually points to a video decoding issue inside the player. Go into the player's settings and change the video decoder — most apps offer a choice between hardware and software decoding. If that doesn't resolve it, close the app completely, relaunch it, and test a different channel to determine whether the problem is general or specific to one stream.

Login or M3U URL is not working

Check that you copied the complete URL, including the "http://" or "https://" prefix and any parameters at the end. One wrong character produces an error. Also confirm your subscription is still active — if it expired, the URL stops working immediately. If you need a new URL sent to you, contact us via live chat or email and we'll send one over.

Channels are not loading in the player

Check your internet connection, then try refreshing or reloading the playlist inside the player — most apps have a "refresh" or "reload" option in the source settings. If your connection is fine but the playlist remains empty, the URL may have changed or expired. Contact support and we'll send you a current URL.

EPG shows no programme information

EPG data can take a few minutes to load after you first add the URL, particularly on the initial load. Wait two or three minutes and refresh the player. If programme data still does not appear, check that the EPG URL in the app settings matches exactly what was sent in your welcome email — a single missing character gives the same result as a blank URL.
